Golf, Sports, and Recreation
Scenario 1

Addressing competing priorities in sporting activities

Here is the scenario

In addition to an 18-hole golf course, your club has a beautiful athletic facility that includes six tennis courts and two pickleball courts. With the recent explosion in pickleball, there is a growing demand for more pickleball courts. It is more cost-effective to convert several of the existing tennis courts into pickleball courts instead of building new ones. As you observe the courts, you notice that the existing pickleball courts are always full, with members waiting, and the tennis courts are rarely all being used. When you propose converting the tennis courts to pickleball courts to the members, the tennis players at your club come out in full force against losing the tennis courts.

Questions

Answer the following questions in a way that illustrates an understanding of servant leadership and culture of care.

  • Can you appease both the pickleball and tennis players? How?
  • What is another option to meet the growing demand for pickleball at the club?
